Custom DIY iPhone Dash Mount

I made my own custom iPhone dashboard mount after buying the Navigon Mobile Navigator app. I needed a way to mount the iPhone on my dash ASAP and didn't feel like making a special trip to some big store like Best Buy or waiting for one to ship from Amazon. It took me about 3 hours to build, and less than $10 in parts.

I already had some plastic clamps sitting around, and the aluminum flat bar was left over from one of my Halloween projects.

The bottom of the two clamps came from the packaging for a pair of motorcycle gloves. It slides in between two layers of plastic at the top of my dash to clamp the whole unit in place.

The top of the two clamps comes from Lowe's. It opens up to spread the upper and lower aluminum brackets apart so when it closes it holds the iPhone in place with just a little pressure. My iPhone is in a silicon case, so the exposed aluminum of the brackets doesn't come in direct contact with the iPhone.
