The Experiment Costume Updated 2011

This is the first time I’ve revisited a past costume to make changes and improvements. When I made The Experiment back in October of 2009, I also turned my garage into a haunted house for Halloween. So when I got to the end of the design process on the costume, I had run out of time and energy, and the one piece blue jumpsuit was good enough to finish it off. Because I’ve never worn this costume to any of the Halloween conventions yet, I decided it would be a good one to focus my annual creative energies on, and try to bring it up to the same level of awesome as my other costumes. I think of this costume as a steampunk Frankenstein’s monster.

My plans to make improvements include:

  • Dirty up, or distress, the metal with fake rust and grime.
  • Replace the yellow tubing with something less modern looking.
  • Make a new outfit from leather and canvas that looks more authentic.
  • Come up with some new make-up for my face instead of using the leather face mask.

I wore The Experiment to two local conventions in Columbus, OH: MARCon 46 and MHC 2011

MARCon 46 Masquerade – I make my appearance on stage around 2:05 – with my old face

Practicing Scary Faces – I ditched the leather face mask and went with my own face before attending MHC 2011

Special thanks to the following people for letting me use their photos of my costume from various conventions:
