Remote Control Rats for Hairspray

I made these two remote control rats for a local production of the musical Hairspray. The photos have captions describing each step of the process. The key to making them wobble when they move is a bolt extending out from the side of both rear tires. As the tires rotate, the bolts push up on alternating sides of the rat’s body.

DIY realD 3D Glasses

I wear prescription glasses. Going to see a 3D movie where I have to wear a 2nd pair of glasses is uncomfortable. I decided to bring home a few pair of the realD 3D glasses from my local theater and modify them to fit my normal prescription glasses.

The Experiment Costume Updated 2011

This is the first time I’ve revisited a past costume to make changes and improvements. When I made The Experiment back in October of 2009, I also turned my garage into a haunted house for Halloween. So when I got to the end of the design process on the costume, I had run out of time and energy, and the one piece blue jumpsuit was good enough to finish it off. Because I’ve never worn this costume to any of the Halloween conventions yet, I decided it would be a good one to focus my annual creative energies on, and try to bring it up to the same level of awesome as my other costumes. I think of this costume as a steampunk Frankenstein’s monster.

DIY LEGO iPhone Stand

Now with 100% more Super Sonic Parabolic Space-age Acoustic Reflector Dish™!

This is a simple DIY iPhone Stand using Technic LEGOs. You can easily adjust the angle of the iPhone. There is also an adjustable radar dish (from a 1980s space LEGO kit) to reflect the sound toward you. I used rubber caps from a metal shelving unit to prevent the iPhone from slipping on the plastic LEGOs.
